-
Interviewer:
So in a few words, could you tell me, what do you think is the biggest problem facing Detroit’s public schools right now, and how would you solve it?
LaMar Lemons:
The lack of financial support. And first of all, I would go after, it would be a two pronged attack. I would go after the current legislation that is prohibiting the Detroit Public Schools from realizing its full capitalization. And secondly, I would go after I would go after the state's, obligation, outstanding obligation that they owe for their relentless experiments that they've had on the district and they call them experiments. And then finally, we have to we would support the families and make sure that the, the environment from which the children comes and must return is, is solid and nurturing and most advantageous.
Interviewer:
Got it. Can you elaborate a little more on when you say support the families? Like what does that look like?
LaMar Lemons:
Well, what supporting the family-- a child is coming from a family and many times the family has issues with finances and other issues. We must interview the parents, and it should all be voluntary and see what we can do to remedy some of the problems that they have day to day in one, getting the students to school because that is a problem in Detroit’s public schools. And also with education and employment. So we want to be supportive. Everyone should be getting. We can always learn more. And no matter what the education level and statistics show some of our parents have have trouble reading. So how can you help your child? So we want to do all the support. Financial support. Transportation support. Emotional support.
Interviewer:
Yeah.
LaMar Lemons:
When you’re educating your child, you are bringing that entity to the family. The family is sending you their child. You want to make make sure their child has the optimum environment from which they emanate.
Interviewer:
“As a student, I wish my school had...”
LaMar Lemons:
As a student, I wish my school had more diverse program and skilled trades so that when I completed school, I was immediately employable and I could assist myself in higher education if that is what I chose or go into business.Description text goes here
